Scope and document review

KeystoneAxis Sourcing factory quote and scope review

KeystoneAxis Sourcing lines up alternative quotations after the buyer writes what every supplier must price. The referenced name is a search starting point. This desk does not claim authorized dealer status and does not offer that brand as a product. For a scope drill, a buyer might write an 80 ft by 120 ft footprint, a 24 ft eave height, 25 ft bay spacing and an 80 ft clear span, then ask each supplier to price the primary frame, purlins, girts, insulated metal panel, design live load and foundation interface on separate rows.

Two boundaries that must not share one total

The columns below are scope boundaries, not two models from a named manufacturer. A supplier can quote either boundary, or a mix, but the mix has to be written row by row.

Item to confirmShell or kit boundaryTurnkey boundary
Primary frameRigid frame or named member type includedSame frame, plus erection responsibility named
Purlins and girtsSecondary framing listed by spacingSecondary framing plus installation sequence
Insulated metal panelPanel type, thickness and liner only if specifiedPanel plus openings, trim and sealant scope
Foundation interfaceAnchor reactions issued to the buyerFoundation design still needs a named party
FreightEx-works or a named delivery pointDelivery plus unloading and crane time stated
Utilities and interiorNormally excludedIncluded only when the line says so

Design wind speed, wind exposure category, ground snow load and seismic design category stay outside both price columns until the jurisdiction is known. Thermal transmittance and a fire-resistance rating are enclosure questions, not a reason to collapse the commercial lines.

What the desk checks before quotations move

  • Reference product. Record the searched product family as a comparison note, not as an order for that brand.
  • Geometry. Footprint, eave height, bay spacing, clear span and roof slope go in one block.
  • Loads. Design live load, design dead load, collateral load and crane data are requested when the use needs them.
  • Quantity and destination. State how many buildings or modules, the destination and whether partial shipments are acceptable.
  • Documents. Ask for calculations, weld procedure references under AWS D1.1, and coating data for the quoted system only.
  • Commercial split. Currency, per-unit or whole-order budget, and a premium, mid-range, budget-friendly or undecided preference travel as buyer notes.

A standardized bay can be compared faster when the site fits the published geometry. A custom rigid frame is the better question when the span, the door or the exposure does not. That choice is a project decision, not a ranking of suppliers.

Open the inquiry options after the scope rows are stable enough to send.

Questions that change the quotation

Which costs stay out of the building number?

Freight, duties, sales tax, foundation concrete, utility rough-in, permits and crane time are separate until a line includes them. A delivered price and an ex-works price cannot be ranked together.

What is a barndominium request in this workflow?

Treat it as a use and enclosure question: residential occupancy, insulation, openings and the applicable code path. It is not evidence that this desk sells a named brand package.

Can photos replace dimensions?

Photographs help a buyer describe door style or panel profile. They do not replace eave height, bay spacing or the design loads. Ask the supplier which drawing the photo belongs to.

Who accepts the alternative?

The buyer and the licensed project team accept substitutions. KeystoneAxis Sourcing can group the replies. It does not stamp a code approval.

Submit the scope you want quoted

Use the form for the product format, quantity, destination and delivery timing. Optional budget needs a currency and a per-unit or whole-order basis.

Write the specification, quantity, destination and delivery timing in this field. Shell, delivered, installed and turnkey prices use different scopes.
